Vacation Planning Tips
Planning a ski vacation can be complicated. WHITEWOOD SKI TOURS not
only makes it easy for you, we also can save you money in the process. It is
important to understand all of your options because it can impact your price
significantly. Below you will find a great deal of information that will help
you understand what goes into planning a trip.
Just as summer has it's peak travel periods, so too do ski resorts. Often
times, your prices will directly affect historical ski conditions at each
resort. Early and late seasons are more affordable because the snow is more
variable and less predictable. Conversely, regular season conditions are less
variable and you can expect most of the ski area to be open, if not all of it.
Always consider late season trips. Plenty of a ski area's terrain will still be
open, and you never know when a big snow storm will hit….April and, at times,
May.
Value Season
- Pre-Christmas, January, late March to April
Regular Season
- February and March
Holiday Season
- The two weeks that include Christmas and New Years, as well as Presidents
Week.
Every ski destination offers a unique experience, just as every ski traveler
has unique expectations. When planning your trip, it is important to know what
a potential destination has to offer. This will ensure you are spending your
vacation dollars effectively. With our extensive resort knowledge, we can help
you choose the destination that's right for you.
What do you plan on doing after a day on the slopes? Don't forget, you will
spend a great deal of your vacation NOT skiing. Some destinations offer a
greater variety of dining options, off-slope activities, and night life than
others.
Choosing the right combination of quality, location and unit type is one of the
most vital aspects of planning your trip.
Location
Ski-in/Ski-out
These properties will generally be more expensive and will vary greatly in age,
decor and amenity offerings. For many, the convenience to the lifts and base
area restaurants is well worth the extra price. Walking Distance Properties may
be equally as convenient, but more affordable because they are not truly
ski-in/ski-out.
Off-Mountain Lodging
As stated earlier, most resorts provide a free shuttle that services the
majority of the lodging accommodations. Many times a luxury unit on the shuttle
route will cost you the same as a economy unit in the base area. Occupancy
Regardless of the condominium's size, most have a hide-away sofa bed in the
living room. Using the hide-away can cut your per-person price by as much as
$50.00. Property management companies determine a maximum occupancy for all
properties which cannot be exceeded for any reason.
TYPES OF PROPERTIES
Hotel
Hotels will often take a shorter length of stay than a condominium, and for
just one or two people, will prove to be your most affordable option. Bedding
configurations can generally be guaranteed at a hotel property.
Condominium
A condominium will have a full kitchen and living area, amenities not typical
of a hotel room. Condos generally offer a variety of unit sizes, from studios
up to 4 Bedroom condos. Condos generally will not guarantee bedding
configurations and will often have minimum night stays of 3 - 10 nights,
depending on time of year. For most ski travelers, the condominium is the most
popular lodging option.
House
At most ski areas, there are a handful of houses that offer nightly vacation
rentals.Houses can range from very basic to very deluxe, and are generally
priced accordingly. A house is a good option for a group of 10-16 people who
all want to stay together under one roof. A house is a great place for a really
big family, several couples or small families, or a corporate retreat. Houses
can, at times be difficult to confirm availability due to their limited
inventory. If you want to stay in house on your next ski vacation, plan early.
